Barn Dances and Traditional Music
I have been the fiddle player in the Log Cabin Barn Dance Band for almost 20 years. We provide musicians and callers for barn dance events in Staffordshire,East Shropshire, North Birmingham and the Black Country. Our normal line up is accordion, fiddle and rhythm guitar (all amplified). Whenever possible the band is from within my family working with a caller to teach the moves and generally MC the proceedings. We all have many years playing, performing and calling experience together. Members of the band provide the music for the annual May Day Celebrations around the maypole at the Black Country Living Museum working with callers from Cannock Folk Dance Club. All our close group of callers are experienced in getting even the most inexperienced dancers to join in and enjoy themselves without making anyone self concious. By assessing the make up of the audience and their dancing skills each evening is individually tailored as we go along. Our whole intention is for you and us to have a fun evening and some laughs together. We take our music very seriously bur certainly not ourselves. All our work comes from repeat business, recommendation or via our group of callers with whom we have decades of excellent working relationship. Through membership of Stafford Folk Dance club and connections with other local clubs and musicians we are used to playing dances dating from the 17th Century to the present and from the British Isles, Ireland, Western and Eastern Europe and the North American Continent
